The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
by Stephen Covey

These books were published at the end of the '80s and have not been surpassed in terms of setting out an ethical and effective way of living for a manager, or for that matter, a human being. For an aspiring manager who wants to start reading about how to learn the skills he or she needs, then there is not, in my opinion, a better book to begin with. The book on the right is an updated version published in 1999. Both are available in the UK and US.
